Told you…… Same place, today.
I am very happy to announce the first give away of my company!! Or, let's say it this way: my first give away as a designer!!
It's kind of funny when I have to talk about me or my company. Confusing?? Well, as some of you may know (and for the ones who doesn't know it), I am one of the few in this industry that is the owner of a textile company and designer of all the fabric lines at the same time. Did you arrive at the same conclusion that I do every day? LOTS OF WORK!! :) Another conclusion? TOTAL FREEDOM!! The most obvious conclusion? THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD!! I loooooove what I do and everyday I get up convinced that I was born for this…
As I told you yesterday, I wanted this give away to be very exciting. That's why I am giving two 50 FAT QUARTER BUNDLES prizes.
Oh, yes! My babies will be so happy to find a new home and be along with other fabrics in the stash of the new owners….
Remember I told you yesterday to be ready to laugh??
I have a question for you and the two most funny answers will win:
WHAT WAS THE MOST FUNNY/WEIRD SITUATION THAT YOU HAVE HAD AT YOUR SEWING ROOM WHEN ABOUT TO START SEWING?
I am sure many of you will have a great time and laugh when reading all the comments.
Please be sure to include your email address in your comment so, if you win, the babies can go home with you…
I will live comments/answers open until March 12, so be sure to post your answer before that date to win!
And this is just my first give away… I have many more coming up!
So subscribe, subscribe, subscribe to my blog to be the first one to know about more free fabric, free patterns, random cash prizes and many more cool and inspiring ideas (like video tutorials) that I will put here in the coming months….
You see, I want everybody to know ART GALLERY Fabrics and experience (like all sewers and quilters say) the pleasure to sew on my premium quality cotton brand.
Now, I think I wrote enough; so now it's your turn. So give me your best answers!
Handmade rocks… So keep on stitching!
Patricia

I don’t have any worthy sewing stories right now as I am just now back into sewing after being away from it for more than 25 years (scary!). I would still love a chance to win the fat quarters. They would come in very handy for the Project Linus quilts I have been working on (this is what brought me back to sewing). Thanks for hosting a great giveaway!

I was 12, and first learning how to sew (taking a home ec class in jr high). I was making one of those blankets…the ones that are smooth on some side and ruffle-y on the other side, and for some reason, I just wasn’t understanding the whole right side/ wrong side concept. It seems simple, but I guess I had been programmed to sew the wrong sides together, but for this project, you HAVE to sew the wrong sides together. Well, each day my teacher would ask, “how are things going Elizabeth?” and I would respond, “just fine, I’m getting a ton of squares together each day!” Well, she finally saw some of my work (roughly halfway through about a hundred squares) and told me I had been doing it wrong the entire time and had to start all over. I felt so stupid! But at least I got in lots of practice ;)

I was making a new blouse and finally had the cuffs on when I went to press I realized I had put them on backwards. Two tries later they were finally on correctly! Thank goodness for seam rippers!

When I was in college I took a flat pattern design class and the final project involved designing a pattern for the adorable quarter-size dress form ladies we had in the classroom, and then sewing up our design. This was one of my most time consuming projects as an undergrad (second only to my insect collection for entomology).
So the night before the project was due I was working on making the pleated skirt and sailor-collared blouse I’d designed. I was listening to the Achtung Baby album by U2 and sewing away, far into the night. My roommates had been in a bit of a practical joke war with some guy friends and at about 2 a.m. I heard something going on outside the door. I went to open the door and see what was going on, and I couldn’t get it open. Finally I tugged on the door hard enough to see that the doorknob was tied with a rope to the balcony railing across from the door of our 2nd story apartment. I got a kitchen knife and cut the rope and opened the door so I could look outside and see if they were still out there. Nobody was there, and then I realized the door was sticky… the guys had also covered the doorknob with honey. It was actually a horrible mess and took a long time to get all the way clean. To this day I can’t hear any song from Achtung Baby without thinking of sewing and the practical jokers that my roommates were friends with.

I started sewing again last year, after a big move, and so at first, I was sewing in my laundry room, standing up, with the machine on top of the washer. Easy on the back, actually!
That wasn’t working too well though, so next I moved it to our dining room table, with the cord stretched out to reach the socket. With my three young children underfoot. Trying to help. Climbing up when I stepped away from my machine, unwinding bobbins, resetting my dials, and making off with my presser foot! But the best was while in the middle of sewing something, I stopped to re-pin or something and my middle child (he was 2 at the time) grabbed the cord and yanked the machine clean off the table!
Luckily no children or machines or sewing projects were harmed, just a bit shaken. And I learned that a designated sewing space was a priority! That is the story of how our guest room became my craft haven.

Good evening. After dinner one night I was going to buckle down for a couple of hours of sewing. I bid farewell to my husband and our two cats. I had just laid out my fabric choices on the guest bed in my sewing room when my husband walked in with his computer. A few steps behind him was our boy tabby cat, and behind him was our girl kitty. It was virutally a family parade. Our house is 2200 sq. ft. and everyone decided to settle into my 12′ x 14′ sewing room , on the bed, on top of my fabric. I truly felt like Rodney Dangerfield “I get no respect”.
Thank you for the consideration.

My most endearing memory at my sewing machine, revolves around my 7 year old telling me that could I please get a move on because SHE needs the sewing machine to work on her project.
