Hey everyone! How are you starting this special weekend?
Hope the Easter Bunny hopped around your home and left you some yummy stuff… I remember when my little Alex used to run around looking for his chocolate eggs… Well, time went by and he is a bit too grown-up for egg hunting now, but there's no such thing as being too old to eat chocolate right? So yeah, I had my good dose of sweets this week ;)
Speaking of sweet, I've got some pretty sweet news for you: A NEW BAG PATTERN! Do you remember this mysterious bag I've been posting pictures of…?
Well the mystery is over! I introduce to you: THE CAPRI BAG.
The Capri Bag is a roomy, baggy shoulder tote perfect for carrying your everyday items. It can be worn as a reversible bag with exterior pockets, and it features convenient adjustable handles… I am so thrilled the way it came out!
So, what's so special about this pattern? It's the first of my patterns to be presented in a PDF format… but not the downloadable ones; the Capri Bag pattern consists of a CD with a 40-page PDF file filled with instructions supported by full color diagrams and step-by-step pictures.
Plus, the real-size printed paper templates are included! You don't have to print and tape pages together.
So basically, you pop in the CD to your computer and you're all set to start sewing!
Who wants to give it a whirl? Well just leave me a comment about what you think about PDF patterns: yay or nay? What's your opinion on the PDF coming in a CD with the printed templates included as opposed to downloadable ones? Do you think PDF patterns will eventually replace the regular printed ones? And what do you like best? I think this could become an interesting debate!
For those who leave comments I will be entering your names in my magic hat for a giveaway, and 2 lucky winners will be receiving in the mail:
– A CAPRI BAG PATTERN (CD + printed paper templates)
– Plus THE FABRIC REQUIRED TO MAKE THE BAG –and you can choose the fabrics!
For the winners: after winning you can go to www.patbravo.com and choose three fabrics you want to use for your Capri (choose between Coquette, Paradise, or Dreaming in French)
I'll announce the winners next Wednesday April 27.
Sounds good? Leave you comments and good luck everyone!
Love,
Pat.

PDF patterns are going to be the way of the future, however printer size will be an issue. I am fortunate that I have a plotter in my studio which is nothing but a fancy wide format printer and can print up to 48″ and indefinite length.
For smaller items and cuts on the fold PDF’s will be fine but larger patterns will still need to be printed. I can see that video instructions with PDF’s will be very helpful to many beginners as well as more difficult patterns for the more experienced.

Well I am loving that PDF CD thingy!! (I can sew, however I am not technologically gifted: hence the “thingy”)–anyhow I also love the way that bag works! Crossing my fingers :)

I think that pdf patterns are great for smaller projects (plush toys, bags, quilt patterns), but for larger ones (dresses, jackets, etc) perhaps not becuase I don’t like having to tape all the pieces of the pattern together after you have printed them out. It does make getting patterns more instantaneous- you don’t have to wait for the package in the mail. If I am going to have a pdf pattern, I do like the idea of having it on CD in case the computer blows up.

PDF patterns sound good because you have the pattern there if a piece gets lost or tears or gets chewed by a dog or cat:) but if the pattern pieces are large and have to be printed on A4 paper then pieced together it could make it difficult for some- I am lucky in the fact my DH works in the draughting industry and has access to big plotter printers. I love this bag it would fit all my junk/ belongings in it easy without them spilling out everywhere if I put it down. The fabrics are brilliant too -love them all.

I like both paper and PDF patterns. Paper for clothing and PDF for crafts. And the CD idea is wonderful because you can have all the details the author wants to show and explain. Thanks for the giveaway and Felices Pascuas!

I think that pdf format will not replace all paper patterns. paper is a necessity for sewing so i think there will be options for sewists.
I would love to try out the new pattern and format with CD and paper!

Wow, love the bag! I like the idea of pdf, the more pictures the merrier, especially when making a pattern for the first time.

That’s quite an awesome bag – may have to work that one. Personally I like pdf files – saves postage, delivery, paper, etc. And you can have it saved in the ‘clouds’ if you are not ready to use it yet. Thanks.

I do love holding a paper pattern in my hands, but I have to say my favorite are pdf patterns…I like the freedom of printing the pattern pieces, and being able to print again (say, if I am making clothing, I can just cut it in my size and not worry about saying the additional ‘sizes’).
Wow I can’t believe the packaging on your new pattern… ::drool::

I love pdf’s. I have an 8 month old little girl and I loose/tear/ruin patterns constantly. The only ones I still have and know where they live are in pdf form!
I would love to make this bag into a super cute diaper bag!!

Super fun bag! I’d love the pattern to that and free fabric? wow!
I’m still pretty old fashioned with my patterns…I like to have a hard copy to file. But, you know, now with the net, that paper clutter gets old fast! If I could have a notebook computer just for storing files, recipes etc, I could haul out alot of paper! I’m sure that pdfs will be the way of the future…my college girls are so hooked to computer and cell, that they don’t mess with paper anymore….
I think I’d like the CD option only again because I like to have it in hand….my old fashioned thinking…I don’t trust my computer to never fail me and lose everything I’ve stored on it :(

I love pdf patterns, but I still do like the printed templates coming with the pattern too – I’m not sure why, I just prefer to see it on that big paper. Pdf’s are great because you can see pictures and step by step – which is more how I sew, by seeing someone else do it first.

I LOVE pdf patterns but only because I have to buy patterns online (I live in Turkey) and I like starting to play with my patterns right after I buy them – as if I bought them from a shop. If they were available in stores here I would definitely prefer the printed ones.
Thank you for the giveaway, beautiful bag! :)

Gorgeous bag! Can’t wait to snag it and use your wonderful pure elements solids to make it. I like pdf patterns if the pattern isn’t too complex, i.e. no more than 4 or 5 pattern pieces. I hate taping pieces together to make the pattern. I’d much rather have the printed pattern in that case.

Love the bag – thanks for the giveaway.
PDF vs.CD vs. printed pattern -Hmmmmmm Personally – I am just fine with a PDF version of any pattern. Easy to print and available to re-print if you want another size. Anything I don’t have to physically store I am good with, then I have more room for yummy fabric:-)

Hi! I love your new bag. Also love all the bags you’ve designed, especially the Maui Bag. PDFs are great to download, but offering a choice is good. Whenever magazines offer digitals, I jump at that; I can download 2-3 years of magazines on one CD.

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I like pattern pieces ready to cut. I don’t like the patterns you have to enlarge 200% as it gets costly going to get them printed. For small projects I like the PDF patterns I can print without having to tape pieces together. Love your new pattern!

I love the capri bags. I have been wanting to sew a bag like this.
Though I love the pDF pattern I buy the printed one. My preference is to have a CD with pdf along with printed patterns. This way even if I lose a piece of piece of printed pattern , I can print the pattern from CD again.

I have to say I’m not really a fan of PDF patterns if you have to download, print, tape, etc. them. However, if they are in cd form with accompanying real paper pieces I’m willing to give it a go.
I love the bag! It looks large enough to carry just about everything!

I am not a big bag person but I LOVE this bag!! Just the one I want for me! :)
As for PDFs – it is and it will definitely be the way of the future! In the slow progression of the change to “green”-everything, having less and less paper around is the way to go. I know – I love my paper magazines and having them in my hands, leafing through with my cup of coffee…that will not change soon. BUT – we don’t have to have EVERYTHING in paper format, right? So – whatever doesn’t cut into our little pleasures – I say, welcome the change! Besides – this can be way more practical too!

i like the idea of having a pdf of the file – so that i can keep it organized on my computer instead of taking up shelf space (i would rather use that for fabric!) but i don’t know about having a cd of it. that seems to defeat the purpose. i think i would like the option of just being able to download it.

I like the idea of pdf patterns they are easier to use and quicker to get. I live in Canada and sometimes it takes a long time for a pattern to get here.

I have tried one PDF pattern and is is not as easy for me to hook my computer up and have it ready to view all the instructions and pictures on it while I am trying to sew. I guess I just need to get used to it. I haven’t tried one with a cd before and a template already printed out though, so this may make it a little easier to use. It is still nice to have the printed page in hand. Thanks for the giveaway, this bag looks wonderful.

I like PDF patterns because when I see something I love I want it right then! The only problem though is that if my computer dies (it has before), it all goes away with it so a CD or printed copy is definitely a plus.

I am on the fence where PDF Patterns are concerned… I like that you can re-print the pattern pieces later on down the road because there are a couple of bag and skirt patterns that I have had to re-purchase due to excessive love (over use). Also I like that you can print multiples of the pattern, for say a skirt, and hack away at the length without worrying about wanting a longer one in the future. At the same time… there is something very familiar and comfortable about a pre-printed pattern and directions. Opening up the envelope and unfolding all the goodies inside. The bag is gorgeous, and a great size. Thanks for the chance to win.
