5 free quilt patterns you can sew with half square triangles (HST)

Hello lovely quilters!

I hope that you know about our library of free quilt patterns we have on AGF website! If not, it’s time for you to check it out and choose your favorite for summer sewing.

Today I would like to feature 5 free quilt patterns that you can sew with Half Square Triangles (HST). Half square triangles are commonly used patchwork components and they are one of the most basic blocks in quilting. Most beginning quilters starts their project with HST and it gives them a great base to create a lot of different quilt blocks.

So… what exactly are half square triangles?

Half square triangle units are squares made up of two equal triangles. Each triangle occupies half of the square's space.

What’s great about HST is that you can create with them so many different quilt blocks!

Take a look at the free quilt patterns below. The possibilities are endless!  You can make a quilt just with HST or incorporate them into quilt blocks with fabric strips, squares, rectangles, and other quilting techniques.

I love HST quilts. I have made many. I made one with all the hsts going in the same direction, and then a few little pinwheels here and there.
I made that one for my mom. She is 93 and I am taking care of my mom and dad the past three years. They are “my twins” haha I love them and feel so blessed. The quilt turned out Nice.
My mom loved it. She had a stroke and does not remember much in her past unless carefully shown and reminded. She was born in Holland in 1923! She was born with only a right hand! She was amazing and lived through WW2 when the Nazis occupied Holland. Then after the war she met my handsome daddy. She could sew on a machine and made clothes for all four of us kids.
she also made lace, needlework, stitchery she made her own fancy dresses, and the one for my wedding. She was incredible and amazing.
Then I made for my son in law, a quilt with squares on the bias.
That turned out well and he loved it.
I love these quilts. I love the first one, but that is because it is using Katerina’s fabrics. I love those so much. I hope to get a bundle of that collection one day :-)
Have a great week-end all of you. This ends my short story for today :-D

Hello Rosemary. Your story has moved us! Especially the fact that your mom learned to sew with one hand! She is a great example for many makers out there! She truly shows that whenever we put our mind into something, we can do anything despite of the limitations. We are glad you like sewing too and that you make quilts for your loved ones! <3
