Muse Magic: “Flower Child” Fabric Collection

Did you ever believe in magic as a child or would pretend to live in an enchanted land? When I was around seven years old, I distinctly remember watching the Disney movie “Peter “Pan” and instantly believing in fairies mainly because of the character “Tinkerbell.” It was during this time as well that I was having frequent visits by “the tooth fairy," so how could you not believe that fairies existed?! I remember that same year, I was also “Tinkerbell” for Halloween and even made my own bottle of “pixie dust” that was a little glass bottle with cork top on it, filled with iridescent glitter. Weeks after Halloween, I was still finding “pixie dust” in my hair because I just couldn’t stop sprinkling it everywhere!

Our latest fabric collection Flower Child” designed by Maureen Cracknell definitely brings back all those memories of letting your imagination run wild and believing in a “certain magic.” Taken from memories of her own childhood where she’d imagine living in an enchanted land by building forts outsides and gathering flowers with her sisters, this collection is filled with whimsical prints such as dancing fairies and lush meadows with little forest critters. A great collection when it comes to fussy-cutting for framing in quilt blocks as well as using as appliques to personalize, special handmade items!

I would love to make the pillow with the button center (page 58-59) but the link does not take me to the free tutorial. It links up to a post showing different cushions. Can you direct me to the proper link please? thank you.

Hi Kathleen, thanks for the feedback! You’re correct that the pillow with the button center looks different than the tutorial we posted! We used that pattern as inspiration and improvised by adding a button and stitching, so there is no pattern that includes those details. Hope that clears up any confusion. :)

I have a question about the Flower Crowns Pattern instructions: Under the Classic Curves Cutting Directions, the second line states: Cut Eight (5) 5 1/2″ squares from fabrics A B C & D. However, fabrics A B C & D are the larger outside flower petals. They’re only used once in each large flower block. So, why are we cutting that fabric, twice? Should the instructions be identifying fabrics E F G H & I to be cut for the 5 1/2″ squares? These fabrics are used twice, for the center of the flower block, then again, in each corner of the large petals. I cannot get any more fabric, so I really need to know if the instructions have an error in them, in the Cutting Instructions, before I cut into my limited fabrics??

Hi Patty! Thanks for your inquiry! Regarding the cutting instructions for A, B, C, D – they are correct, you need to cut 8 5 1/2” squares because those will be the Convex (Petal) pieces she see in the quilt.
Then you need to cut 2 6 1/2” squares from the same fabrics because with those 2 pieces of each, you’ll have 4 of the concave units.
If you’re new with using the Classic Cuver Ruler, here’s the link where it explains how to have 2 pieces of the Concave pieces from just one square fabric:
    https://colorgirlquilts.com/2017/06/cutting-classic-curves-ruler.html
For Fabrics E, F, G, H, I cutting instructions, unfortunately they had to be fixed. The 5” squares are for the smaller Half Square Triangles that will be cut out with the shape of the Convex and the 6” squares will be for the Bigger Convex shape. The new instructions should be clear for you with everything and you also have the option to use the Templates and cutting instructions using the templates.
The updated instructions are in the Flower Child lookbook!
Hope that helps provide insight, and thank you for your patience.
